Mrs. Catherine Roberson Leggett, 86, of 414 Wharton Station Road, Old Ford community, died Sunday, May 28, 2006. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Paul Funeral Home of Washington with Eddie Bowen officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Carlie Ambrose, Sammy Leggett, Freddie Matkins, Jon Mauney, J.W. McCeldry and Kevin Vick. Mrs. Leggett was born in Beaufort County on June 25, 1919. She was the daughter of the late James E. Roberson and Estelle Morgan Roberson. She was a homemaker and cared for children in her home for many years. She was a member of the Old Ford Church of Christ and the Ladies’ Circle No. 1. She taught Sunday School for many years. Known as “Nanny” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was also a member of the Woodmen of the World. She was married for 63 years to Sam Bell Leggett, who preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 2005. Survivors include one son, Sam Edward Leggett and his wife, Patsy, of Washington; two daughters, Estelle Briley and her husband, Jerry, and Gay Saleeby, all of Washington; three grandchildren, Donald Leggett and his wife, Julie, of Pensacola, Fla., Kit Vick and her husband, Kevin, of Washington and Gwen Mauney and her husband, Jon, of Wilmington; and two great-grandchildren, Robert Leggett of Pensacola, Fla., and Mason Vick of Washington. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Roberson and Charlie Roberson; and four sisters, Edna Roberson O’Hare, Beatrice Roberson Leggett, Sue Roberson Buck and Dorothy “Dot” Roberson Robinson. The family will receive friends at the home. Paul Funeral Home of Washington is serving the Leggett family. (Washington Daily News (Washington, NC) – Monday, April 29, 2006)
