Catherine Ramsey, 89, was one of Mercer county's oldest native citizens. the former Catherine Lois Godfrey, one of a family of 13 children of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Godfrey, she was born Dec. 8, 1852 in the neighborhood where she died. She married in 1873 to William Lorimer Ramsey who died in 1903. Ever since her marriage she has resided on the same farm. Surviving are two sons, William G., who resided with his mother, and John D. of Kansas City, MO; six daughters, Mrs. Minnie Rowena Stewart of Peora, Mrs. Charles Sharer of Norwood, Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Oliver of Pamona, CA, Mrs. Frank Lightner of Davenport, Mrs. Willis Wiley of Cedar Creek and Mrs. Elmer Johnson of Washington, Iowa; 26 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Mrs. Ramsey's parents were pioneers in the county and she had four brothers who served in the Civil War, one of whom was killed in action. A twin sister, Mrs. David Huston, died nine years ago.
