“CHARLES ALFRED PIGOT-MOODIE

2nd Lieutenant, 6th Battalion Rifle Brigade, youngest son of the late George Pigot-Moodie, of Westbrook, Rondebosch, Cape Colony, MLC of Cape Colony, and sometime Surveyor-General of the Transvaal, by his wife Rose, daughter of Stephen Spranger FRCS Eng; and grandson of Lieutenant Donald Moodie, RN, Colonial Secretary of Natal (1845-49) and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly (1857) [3rd son of Major James Moodie, 9th Laird of Melsetter, Orkney]; born Westbrooke, 30 May 1890; educated Windlesham House Brighton, Harrow and Magdalen College Oxford; gazetted 2nd Lieutenant 15 Aug 1914; went to the Front Nov 1914, and was killed in action at Kennel, Belgium, 13 Jan 1915; unmarried. His elder brother, Lieutenant George Frederick Arthur Pigot-Moodie, 2nd Dragoons (Scots Greys) is now on active service in France. He was wounded on 12 Sept 1914 at Vailly, during the Battle of the Aisne, and was awarded the Military Cross, and the 3rd class Order of St Anne of Russia (with swords).”
