About Charlotte Elizabeth Clinard

Wife of Livingston Nathaniel Clinard. Daughter of Jacob & Johanna Eleonora (Vierling) Schultz.

Memoir of the married Sister Charlotte Elisabeth Clinard, m. n. Shultz.

Our departed sister was born on Sept 6th 1834. The parents were Br. Jacob Shultz, and his wife Johanna Eleanore, m. n. Vierling, who resided near Salem.
They dedicated this their daughter, the youngest of a family of nine children, to the Lord, in Holy Baptism, on Oct 5th 1834. Her childhood and youth were spent at home and in this place, and as a member of the congregation here at Salem, she enjoyed the privileges of our church, becoming a full communicant member by the rite of Confirmation, on Palm Sunday, April 13th 1851, and partaking for the first time of the Lord's Supper on the following Thursday.
On June 8th 1853 she was united in the bonds of Holy Matrimony to Br. Livingston Nath'l Clinard, to whom she has approved herself as a faithful Christian wife.
She was endowed with a strong constitution and always enjoyed good health. The privilege of being brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, was not without its beneficial effect upon the formation of her character, and the development of those qualities of mind and heart which for her were the esteem and friendship of her acquaintances, and endeared her to her now bereaved husband and children. To them she endeavored to discharge her duty faithfully as an affectionate wife and mother, and her memory will be blessed and precious to them, while they hold in fond remembrance her efforts for their happiness and welfare. In the family-circle, amongst her friends and neighbors, and as a member of the Christian Church, she commended herself to the esteem and love of all. The means of grace were appreciated and enjoyed by her, and she endeavored to walk worthy of the vocation wherewith she was called.
That she derived benefit from her religious privileges, and was prepared by them, through the grace of God, to leave this world in peace, and become a happy member of the church triumphant, was abundantly manifested during her last sickness, even to the end. Some weeks ago, she was attacked by the fever which had now proved fatal. Although her illness was severe indeed, her mind remained perfectly clear, and she was fully conscious to the last. Not only did the Lord spare her in this respect, but gave her great peace in her soul. No doubts or fears distressed her, nothing was suffered to disturb the calm repose of her soul upon the mercy and love of her God and Savior. She was quite resigned to his will, and although she would gladly have remained with her dear family, especially when, in the early part of last week there seemed to be some prospect of he r recover, yet when there was again a change for the worse, it caused her no uneasiness or disquietude. She evidently enjoyed that "peace of God that passeth all understanding", and felt assured that nothing could separate her from His love.
On last Tuesday morning it became evident that all hope of her recovery must be relinquished. Towards evening we gathered at her bedside, and united in singing and prayers on her behalf, and although no longer able to speak distinctly, she signified upon being asked, the pleasure and comfort it had afforded her.
Yesterday morning (July 28th) the last blessing of the Church was imparted to her, and about an hour after, she peacefully breathed her last.
"Blest soul! How sweetly doth she rest

From every toil and care
Enjoying now on Jesus' breast
Bliss far beyond compare"

Her age was 34 years, 10 months, and 22 days.
Her husband and family desires to return thanks to the many kind friends who rendered assistance during her illness.* Reference: [https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/20711849/charlotte-elizabeth-cl...
