Juan Navarro from Navarre, Spain, was of Basque descent.
He went to Santo Domingo in 1514; Cuba in 1519 and Mexico in 1520 with (Panfilo) Narvaez in order to arrest Cortez, and later joined Cortez (after Narvaez's defeat and capture).
Had a son Juan Navarro the younger born in 1533. The younger was one of the original settlers of San Martin, New Vizcaya (Durango, Mx) in 1556, where he put in the first ore-crushing mill. Also helped found Saltillo in 1577 and was married to Dona Maria Rodriguez.
