Cornelia Annabella Howard

Cornelia was the daughter of Gen. Jacob Read (1752-1816), and later US Senator, from Charleston, SC and Catherine Ann Van Horn (NY1756- after 1821). In Dec 1820 she married John Eager Howard, Jr (1788-1822) at Drakies plantation near Savannah, Ga. Their son John Eager Howard III was born in 1821, and her husband died the next year in Mercersburg, PA.

Death of Mrs. Cornelia A. Howard. – Mrs. Cornelia A. Howard, daughter of the late Hon. Jacob Read, of South Carolina, and wife of the late John Eager Howard, Jr., eldest son of Col. John Eager Howard, of Revolutionary fame, died yesterday morning at her residence, on Franklin Street, in the sixty-fifth year of her age. The deceased lady has for a number of years occupied a prominent position in Baltimore, and was highly esteemed for her virtues. A requiem will be sung to her memory on tomorrow morning, at the Cathedral. Her remains will be taken to Boston, Massachusetts, to be interred by the side of her only son, Major John Eager Howard, who died in that city on the 14th of last August. The Sun (Baltimore, MD.)
