About Council Harmon

Find a Grave

Birth: 1806 Watauga County North Carolina, USA

Death: Feb., 1890 Sugar Grove Watauga County North Carolina, USA

Son of Sabra Hicks and Andrew Harmon. Married Nancy Elizabeth Tester and later Celia Ward. Altogether he had around twenty children. Council is credited for reviving and expounding upon the "Jack Tales." These tales have old English variants, but "Old Counce" updated them and probably created additional stories, as well. Amongst these tales are world-wide familiar tales such as "Jack and the Beanstalk."
