“American botanist and author. He gained his bachelor's degree at Yale University, then went on to Harvard University where he studied with Asa Gray. He then went back to Yale where he was a botany professor and herbarium curator.” [2]

Career:

“Professor Daniel Cady Eaton, only son of Brevet Major-General Amos B. Eaton, was born at Fort Gratiot, Michigan Territory, in 1834. While a student at Yale, where he graduated in 1857, he was a zealous student of botany, and the three years after graduation were spent in the Lawrence Scientific School of Harvard University, where he received the degree of Bachelor of Science in 1860. In 1864 he was elected to the newly founded University professorship of botany at Yale, which he held until his death. He married, in 1866, Caroline, daughter of Treadwell Ketcham, of New York City.” [1]
