According to his DN his mothers name was Elsie Sophia NEL - this is a mistake, documented marriage of his parents on 1809. Suspect his first wife's name was accidentally entered. The likelihood of this is much greater than normal since he did not have a daughter named "exactly" after his mother - that daughter was called Magdalena...Johanna. Elsie Sophia daughter was named after his wife, not his mother, there was no such Elsie NEL born 1792. JM Blomerus 1/6/2020

About Senekal / Oor Senekal
History / Geskiedenis
Senekal residents campaigned for the foundation of a town, because Winburg was too far removed from them. Since 1873 various petitions regarding this matter was addressed to the Orange Free State House of Assembly. On 5 June 1877 Senekal was finally acknowledged as a town. The town is named after Commandant Frederik Petrus Senekal who died in 1865 in the skirmishes with the Basotho people. Senekal was founded on the farm De Put of F Malan.
Senekal inwoners het hul beywer vir die stigting van ’n eie dorp, want hulle was ver verwyderd van Winburg. Sedert 1873 is verskeie versoekskrifte in hierdie verband aan die OVS Volksraad gerig. Op 5 Junie 1877 is Senekal uiteindelik as dorp erken. Die dorp is vernoem na Kommandant Frederik Petrus Senekal, wat in die skermutselings met die Basotho mense in 1865 dood is. Senekal is op die plaas van F Malan, De Put gestig.

Another interesting person (no. 5 on the list) is Commandant General Frederik Petrus Senekal. He is quite a famous person in South African history, and led many Vrystaters during various wars. The town Senekal in the Free State was named after him in 1877. I would dearly love to visit this place one day, especially since it is in honour of one of my direct forefathers, carrying the same name as me.
