The Will of Deodatus Curtis
This is the text of the will of Deodatus Curtis born 5 March 1706/7 which was written 19 April 1793. It was registered on 4 June 1796 in Hudson, Columbia County, New York. At some point it was copied into a will book and can be found in the Hudson, Columbia County (Surrogate Court) Will Book A, page 353.
"The will of Dudatus Curtis Registered the 4th day of June 1796. In the name of God Amen I Dudatus Curtis of the Town of Canaan Columbia County and State of New York Cordwender being well as to bodily health and of sound memory. Blefsed be God do this day being nineteenth day of April in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred ninety and three make and ordain this my last will and testament in mannnor following that is to say. Firstly I give and bequeath unto my Beloved Wife Hannah the uce [use] and improvement of one third part of my real Estate and ? my funeral charges. Secondly I give and bequeath unto my Son Ebenezer Curtis five shillings. Thirdly I give and bequeath unto my son Samuel Curtis five shillings. Fourthly I give and bequeath unto my Son Nathaniel Curtis five shillings. Fifthly I give and bequeath unto my Son Solomon Curtis forty pounds to be paid within two years after my discease. Sixthly I do give and bequeath unto my Son Selden Curtis all the real and personal Estate that I have at the time of my discease. Seventhly I do give and bequeath unto each of my Beloved Daughters to wit Rebeckah Phelps, Abigail Frost, Hannah Blancher, and Sibel Whitewood twenty shillings apeace to be paid within two years after my discease. And I do hereby apoint and constitute my said Son Seldon to be the sole Executor of this my last will and testament and to pay the Legasies herein given and granted and all my just debts. In testimony whereof I the said Dudatus Curtis have hereunto set my hand and seal on this my last will and testement the day and Year first above written and mentioned. Dudatuis Curtis Signed, Sealed and delivered in presents of Jacob Ford, Elijah Ford, Isaac Ford"
