About Dr. Israel Tisdale Talbot, MD
President of the A.I.H. in 1872. Founded of the new England Female Medical College. Editor of the "New England Medical Gazette. Member of the Monument Committee of the American Institute (Washington). Dr. Israel Tilsdale Talbot founded the New England Female Medical College of Massachusetts in 1848. This homeopathic institution later merged with Boston University, which continued to teach homeopathic medicine well into the twentieth century.
By 1877, it was the home of Dr. Israel Tisdale Talbot and his wife, Emily (Fairbanks) Talbot. He is shown as the owner of 66 Marlborough on the 1883 and 1888 Bromley maps.
Israel Tisdale Talbot was a homeopathic physician. He was a founder of the Boston University School of Medicine and served as its first Dean. Emily Talbot was a leader in efforts to promote higher education of women, and was a founder of the Massachusetts Society for the University Education of Women and the Association of Collegiate Alumnae. Their daughter, Marion, was a professor and Dean of Women at the University of Chicago.
The Talbots continued to live at 66 Marlborough in 1893. "I lived next door in 1964." dt
