Notes

Relationships must have been a little stormy in the Bayly household. In his will written in 1624 Edward included the very interesting paragraph:

'And I do lastly by this my will request and desire that if any differences shall grow or arise between my said wife and children or any of them, that all such controversies shall be ended and determined by my said Executors....'
The reason for this is most likely to be his eldest son Edward, born in 1607. In 1624, Edward would have been seventeen years old, and would most certainly have been rebelling against any control of his step-mother who was only six years his senior - a recipe for discontent.
Edward's will was probated twice. The first was immediately after his death, the second (1628) was when his eldest son became of age and took over duties of executor.
