About Edward Mainwaring, MP, Sheriff of Strattfordshire

Offices Held Mayor, Newcastle-under-Lyme 1609, 1640, 1643; j.p. Staffs. 1615; sheriff 1645-6.
Biography Whitmore was some four miles from Newcastle, for which borough Mainwaring was returned while still at the Middle Temple. He was a parliamentarian in the civil war, and died in 1647. The 1625 MP for Newcastle-under-Lyme was his son.
Links
He was the Sheriff of Staffs in 1646 and espoused the cause of the Parl(y) in the Civil War. He purchased the Manor of Knutton in 1595, and entered the Middle Temple that year. He was MP of Newcastle in 1601 and 1625, mayor of Newcastle in 1609.
