He was appointed juror of the Chowan Pct Court October 30, 1719- served until 1725. He bought a plantation of 530 acres from Dr. James Williamson on Roanoke River in Bertie Precinct. About 1730, Edward Wingate and family moved to a new settlement at Cape Fear River (St. Phillips Parish on Lockwood's Folly River.) 1740- expeditionary force sailed for Caribbean under William Washington (brother of George) and Admiral Vernon. Colonial council met September 23-29, 1741 to award land grants to those who participated in Cartagena Expediton. Edward got 950 acres in Waccamaw District. He made his will September 2, 1758. Probated April 9, 1761 in Craven Co., South Carolina. He disinherited son John. Passed most on to Edward, Jr
