In about 1713 Eliezer, Sr. acquired land at Wapping, part of Deerfield, and that is where Eleazer, Jr. raised his family. Eliezer bequeathed it to Eleazer, Jr. (Note that they spelled their names differently) Eleazer was elected selectman or townsman in 1733 and 1737. In 1743 he and his brothers gained another 113 acres. Eleazar and 2 other men were employed to build 2 towers (Mounts for protection) in 1744 as a result of France declaring war on England in 1740. One of his sonsalso named Eleazer was killed along with a number of neighbors in these frontier battles.

In 1742-3 he purchased 500 acres in Charlemont, a new township lying in the southwest angle of the township on both sides of the Deerfield River. During the summer of 1746 he sold wheat to Fort Massachusetts. However the Fort fell in August of that year and Eleazer returned to Deerfield probably due to the danger of the Indians overrunning the area. Peace was restored and about the fall of 1750 Eleazer and his sons went back to Charlemont and settled on both sides of the river. He stayed a few years but returned to Wapping where eventually he was granted another 184 acres.

He made his will 7 May 1774 and signed his name "Eleaser Hakes."

in 1743 he bought five hundred acres of land in Charlemont, Mass. Several years later, three sons - Gershom, Joshua, and Seth - and their families went to live there.
