Emma HEWSON was born in England in about 1812.

She emigrated with her parents Thomas William and Elizabeth HEWSON from The Downs, England on the 19th December 1819 in Bailie's Party on board the 'Chapman'. She married her first husband John Newhouse BEALE at St. George's Church (later Cathedral), Grahamstown, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope on the 16th September 1831.

They had three children: 1. Caroline Newhouse BEALE born 5 June 1832 d 5 July 1913 at 47 Simmer and Jack, Germiston, Transvaal, Union of South Africa in her grandson's house.

2. Frederick William (Fred) BEALE born before 11 September 1836, Graham's Town, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope. He was Christened on the 11th September 1836 at St. George's Church, Grahamstown, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope. He died young about the 2nd August 1838.

3. John Newhouse BEALE born 22 March 1838 in Grahastown, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope. He was Christened on the 13th January 1839 at St. George's Church, Graham's Town, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope. He died unknown.

She then married her second husband, Jabez HART also at St. George's Church, Grahamstown on the 30th April 1844.
