THE LATE MRS. JESSIE BLACKBURN SHERWOOD
The late Mrs. Jessie Blackburn Sherwood, wife of Mr. Edward John Sherwood, M.B.E., of 'Earlstone,' and of whose passing on Wednesday of last week reference has already been made in these columns, was one of Scone's outstanding personages, and had played a prominent, practical and sympathetic part in all its activities over a long span of years. A member of the well-known Lindsay family, of Maitland, the deceased lady made her advent to Scone just on half a century ago, residing with her sister (Alice), whose husband, the late Mr. James Ramsay, was one of the town's early postmasters and doyen citizens....
The late Mrs. Sherwood was born at Maitland 75 years ago, and apart from her husband, who for years has been indelibly associated with the public and business interests of the town and district, and was the town's civic head for not a few terms, is survived by one son and two daughters.
They are: Mr. Leslie Sherwood, who has held an important pharmaceutical post with the Colonial Sugar Refining Coy., Ltd., in Fiji, for years; Mrs. H. C. McCowan, of 'Westlands,' Wagin (W.Australia); and Mrs. G. H. (Shell) Pass, of Lane Cove.
Sisters are Miss L. Lindsay, of Sydney, and Mrs. Ethel Negus, of Brisbane.
