About Esther Eleonore Auguste Fischer (alias Philipp)
Owner of Schloss Brockau (foto) near Breslau in Silesia
Baptized 8/5/1804
The Kuh Family Papers (Cent.Jud.Archiv.Berlin) name her as 'Esther bapt. Eleonore Auguste née Fischer alias [i.e. former] Philipp'. In the Jewish Breslau Marriage Register she is mentioned as 'daughter of Joseph', who is most likely identical with Dr. Seew-Wolf Fischer, a doctor in Breslau. Apart form the phonetic similarity of 'Jo-seph' and 'Seew' (typical for the Breslau Marriage Register) a reason for this identification can be seen in the fact, that Esther-Eleonore's husband, Daniel Kuh, a wealthy banker in Breslau, could only have married in a well-to-do family according to the customs. Prof. B. Brilling (Breslauer Judentaufen im 19. Jahrhundert 1805-1820, Jüd. Zeitung für Ostdeutschland, Jg. 6, Nr. 17, Beilage, 1929) names for Breslau only this well-known and then baptized family 'Fischer alias Philipp', the one of Prof. Nathaniel-Nicolaus Wolfgang Fischer, son of Dr. Seew-Wolf.
