About Eveline Greene

Evaline was the first wife of John Lewis Greene.

Eveline Cemetary, Fremont, MO: Evaline Edgmond Greene died 1-14-1888 and John Lewis said "the weather was so bad they could not get to a cemetary, Evaline had always wanted her home built on the hill where the cemetary is, she could see so far, she loved thate place." He owned the land and never got the home built, so he decided it would be her final resting place. It is reported that Evaline was buried the next day after her death on the hill, and the place is now called Evaline Cemetary in her honor. At that time it was a wooded area and John set aside approximately two acres of his land for the cemetary. Since there was free range and many cattle, there was no fence. Evaline was the first person to be burried there. John bought enough pickets and made a fence around her grave. Later the two acres were fenced with single wire. Now more land has been added, and a new fence built.
