He went to The Winringham Secondary School, Grimsby from September 1933 to 1939/1940 where he appears to have done well in maths. During the war he joined the RAF and was I beleive stationed in Canada for part of the war. On his marriage certificate in 1945 his rank and proessions arelisted as flight lieutenant 151770 and he had a job as a railway clerk. At some point after the war he found employment with Unger Food Canners Ltd, but had his contract terminated on 6th April 1950 due to a slump in demand. By 1951 though he found employment with Marks & Spencers Ltd. He started with M&S on the 15th May 1951 and he retired from there in the early 1980s.
