Frederick Douglass Bonner moved to the Philippines in 1902 with his wife Charlotte. They were two of a handful of African Americans who joined the movement to establish the Philippine public school system. Fred was assigned to teach in Subic, Zambales. Three of their four children were born in the islands. The family returned to the United States in the late 1910s, where Fred worked as a public accountant. More here: http://bit.ly/lBt3Ad.
