Biographical Summary

"Sir John Alexander Dunlop-Agnew-Wallace, Baronet [S 1670] of Lockryan, K.C.B., only son and heir of 1st wife, born 1774; entered the Army, 1787, becoming eventually Lieut.-Gen. in 1837, and General 11 November 1851; served against Tippoo-Sahib, 1791-92, and at the seige of Seringapatam, was at the capture of Minorca, 15 November 1798; in the Egyptian Campaign, 1801, and in the Peninsular War (at Busaco 1810, where he distinguished himself, Fuentes de Onoro and Salmanca), 1809-12, and was in command of a Brigade in the Army of Occupation of France, 1815; C.B., 4 June 1815; was Col. of the 88th Foot, 1831 till death in 1857; K.C.B. 16 September 1833, and succeeded to Baronetcy soon afterwards, 1835. He married, in or before 1800, Janet, daughter of Willian Rodger of Glasgow, Timber Merchant. He died 10 February 1857, aged 83, at Lochryan House. His widow died there 16 August 1862, aged 99."
