About George Frederick Williams
Captain George F. Williams early during the Confederate war raised and equipped the Darlington Guards, a command which saw arduous and continuous service in the cause of the Southern Confederacy from Bethel to Appomattox.
GFW was originally buried in the Williams plantation cemetery (where an undated monument stands
today), but when his wife died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Baird, in Darlington, he was disinterred
and brought to the Trinity Episcopal Church in Society Hill, Darlington County, and buried beside her.
No markers were placed at either grave.
