About Guillaume de Camville
Existence attested by a pre-Conquest (date uncertain) charter donating certain lands to the abbey of Jumièges (Magni rotuli Scaccarii Normanniae sub regibus Angliae, translated ed. 1840, vol. 1 p. cvi (106). Charter also cites a Gerard and a Millo (Milo), possibly his brothers (or sons).
Presumptive founder of one or more branches of the de Camville family in England. The Dives plaque refers to a Guillaume "Poignant" as well as a Richard "Poignant" - was this Guillaume de Canville, or another member of the same family? (Guillaume "Puignant" is not found in the Domesday Book, but Richard and Robert are.)
It is EXTREMELY difficult to trace the relationships among the various branches, due to the annoying medieval habit of constantly reusing the same two or three given names.
