CHINLE, Ariz., — Services for Harold Evans, 86, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 18 at the Chinle Catholic Church. Reverend Blane Grein, OFM will officiate. Burial will follow at a private family cemetery.
Evans died May 14, 2002. He was born April 13, 1916 in Chinle for the Bitter Water People Clan for the Tangle Waters People Clan.
Evans was a Navajo Code Talker with the U.S. Marines during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Evans of Chinle; daughters Amy Denipah of Mesa, Ariz., Marie Redhouse of Many Farms, Ariz.; brothers Theodore Evans and Louis Jones, both of Chinle; sisters Jessie Gorman and Mary Mitchell, both of Chinle and seven grandchildren and nine great-granchildren.
Evans was preceded in death by parents Evangeline Evans and Annie Jones; brothers Paul Jones and William Jones and sister Frances June.
Pallbearers will be family members.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements
