"He held the rank of Lieutenant-colonel [in the army of Charles I.] in Sir Thomas's regiment at York in 1640, and was at Nottingham at the raising of the standard in July 1642. He was engaged in the action near Cherborne Castle, and subsequently at the battle of Edgehilll in the same year, and was killed at the siege of Bristol, 25 July 1643."
