bits of info

Cemetery is located on the property of the Old Council homestead....it is located in a field, near Windsor and Carrsville, Va.....not visible from the road...stones are down flat and cement poured around the to keep them intact. This is the land granted to the Councils when they settled in America.

The exact location of this cemetery is taken from a book written by Judson Council in 1941. HODGES COUNCILL OF VIRGINIA AND DESCENDANTS. No marker has his name on it. The are a lot of graves with no markers on them.

There is a Judith Yeates(1802-1859) wife of Joseph G. Councill; Christian Councill(d.1855 age 42), daughter of Godwin & Pheraby Councill;Media Ann (d.1849 age 23) wife of Jesse D. Councill; Jesse Councill(1820-1901) and others.

Think Joseph G. Councill is Godwin Councill.

Bits of info shared in the data without the source of the information:

1. I have that the child of Richard and Lucy was William Wooten who
married Ann Bryant, Their son was Amos Wooten who married Priscilla Taylor, their son was William who married Lydia Randolph, their child was Winifred Wooten who married Gray Cobb. Winnie was 1801-1865 and lived in MS.

2. DEED BOOK IV; Isle of Wight County, Va. pp 98

-100. An indenture dated March 17, 1730 between Hardy Council of IOW and Richard Wotten and Lucy his wife and William Wotten their son. The Wooten papers were in a Special Study by Richard C. Wooten of Va., who was the genealogist for the WOOTEN FAMILY ASSOC. He has his works placed in NSDAR library where he proved errors in early Wooten ancestral research. It is likely to be found in Va State Library and Va Hist Soc.

His research proved Lucy Council/Richard Wooten connection and their sons; Richard Wotton and William Wotton. Richard the younger had 1 son,Hardy who died young.

Then, William inherited the land left to Richard by his father and mother, Richard and Lucy Council Wooten. The third son of Lucy's was John and there may have been a James Wooten as well. John, however, is proven by Mr. Wooten in his works.

3. I desc, Richard and Lucy Council Wooten, Jr. From a poor memory, I think this is my lineage; they had: John Wooten, Sr., who wed _____, (daughter of Mr. Johnson or Shadrack Williams?), who had William Wooten, Sr., who wed Nancy Forbes and had William Wooten, Jr., Arther Forbes Wooten, Council Wooten, and my Shadrack "Shade" Wooten of Pitt Co., N.C., who wed Mary Elizabeth "Eliza" Murphey. The old N.C. UDC book says she gave five sons to the Confederate army. She had my Epis, Rev. Edward Wooten, Sgt/Lt CSA (alas, added an extra "T") who wed 2nd, Eliza Yonge Jewett, who had Edward Yonge Wootten of Wilmington, N.C., who wed Ruth Irma James, who had my mother, Mrs. Lelia James Wootten Miller.

4.In some Wooten family papers given me by a distant connection, I find another son of Lucy Council and Richard Wooten listed as Thomas Wooten/Wootten b. 1651 who married Priscilla____.

Thomas Wooten b. 1651 m. Priscilla Benjamin Wooten/Wootten m. Elizabeth Rousseau Thomas Wootten b. 1720 m. Sarah Rabun a daughter of theirs (not proved?) was Olivia Wooten who m. Samuel Alexander

5. Lucy Council was born in Isle of Wight Co., Virginia. She married [GNU] Johnson.(1259)

Power of Alice Hardy, A her mark, of the Isle of Wight County, to her son-in-law Wm Mayo. 1680

[20131203 cos1776 Note: abstracts verified correct BUT others claim that William Mayo is also called "son in law" in the actual Will. Needs follow-up with original document if possible. Current theory is that both Robert Burnett and William Mayo were married to daughters from Alice's previous marriage to Arthur Allen making them actually "step-sons-in-law".]
