About Hugh "Hughey" Lewis Boone, Civil War Veteran (CSA)

Hugh Lewis Boone was a farmer in Greenbrier Co. Virginia(now West Virginia). It appears that he was apparently called "Hughey" by his family members and went by Lewis to others, particularly during the civil war. He was married three times, outliving his first two wives. His first marriage was to Elizabeth Morgan on Nov 30, 1856. To this union was born 10 children: John, Henry, William, Melvina, Joseph, Daniel, Sarah, Naomi, Silas and Woodson. Elizabeth died in 1881. Hugh then married Sarah Morgan on Feb 15 1883. To this union was born 3 children: Esta, Flora and Bessie. Sarah died in 1888. Hugh then married Martha Morgan Stanley on Apr 21 1889. To this union was born 2 children: Charles and Woodson.
Hugh fought in the Civil War as a PVT in Co. B, 26 Regt VA Infantry-Confederate States Army. He was wounded severely in the neck at the Battle of Cold Harbor while under the command of Maj. Gen. Breckinridge. As soon as he recovered, Hugh returned to the battlefield and served till the end of the war. Hugh was described at the end of the war as being 30 yrs. old, 5 ft.10 in. tall, dark complexion, dark or black hair, whiskers and eyes.
Hugh died of pneumonia at age 65. He was a member of the Baptist church. He is buried beside his first wife Elizabeth Morgan Boone in Morgan Cemetery.
