About Ina Perham Story
Graduated from the California School of Arts and Crafts, Berkeley,
Ca. with teaching degree. Taught two years in San Mateo High
School.
Went to New York to study Interior Decoration at the N.Y. School of
Fine and Applied Arts. Followed with some practical experience
with a Decorating Firm there, then returned to my home in San Francisco.
Realized it was painting that I was especially interested in so
went to Monterey to study with Armin Hansen. This study covered
a period of several years, though I maintained a studio in the
Robert Louis Stevenson House for nine or ten years, working with
a group of Monterey artists.
During this period there were travels including a two months trip
to Tahiti with two artist friends, a colorful and rewarding experience.
A year's trip to Europe with two friends followed, with exceptional opportunites:
Studied with Francois Quelve for several months, in Paris. Also
attended croquis classes at the Grande Chaumiere, while there.
Studied composition at the Louvre and other museums. Attended
exhibitions at the Galleries, etc.
Spent some time in Rome, visited churches, museums. A three
month’s stay in Italy included a month of sketching in Positano,
with artist friends from th U.S.
A short period of time was spent in England. This brought to a
close the year in Europe. The many excursions in France and
Italy and Ingland have not been mentioned, but they were most
interesting and included sketching opportunities. On my return to Monterey again painted with the Monterey group.
