It appears that Issac and Henna Laya lived in Memel - today known as Klaipeda. From records he was a shoe manufacture.

In the Lithuanian Central State Archive is a file about Bernhard Kaplan (under the signature 923/1/1335). There Bernhard indicates, that Eisik and Lea Cohn, hjs grandparents, moved from Plunge to Memel in 1886.

On our trip through Lithuania, we had a driver take us from our hotel in Vilna to Plunge and then to Memel. In Memel, we drove to the apartment building where Isaac and family lived. It appeared to be a nice area with mostly stone or brick two-to-three story buildings.

At the time Shirley and I visited Memel, we hadn't known of the whereabouts of a Jewish cemetery in Memel. While reading a book about Jewish Lithuania before WWII, I found that there may have been two cemetery locations - a very ancient cemetery and another one of more recent times located in Memel and is in my file
