- Bonville’s heir was his great grand daughter Cecily, not yet one year old, who was later to be married to the King’s stepson, Thomas Grey, marquess of Dorset, and, after his death, to Henry Stafford, earl of Wiltshire. Certain of the Bonville estates had been entailed by the deceased’s grandfather on the male line, and passed accordingly to his brother Thomas and then to the latter’s son John, on whose death in 1494 the legitimate male line of the family became extinct. Lord Bonville’s liaison with one Isabel Kirkby had resulted in the issue of an illegitimate son, John (d.1499) on whom he had settled quite substantial properties. 20

- Sir Gilbert Denys(c. 1350–1422) of Siston, Gloucestershire, was a soldier, and later an administrator. He was knighted .... etc.
- William Denys, second son, who according to the Devon historian Sir William Pole (d.1635)[16] married Johanna St Aubyn (born 1411), widow of Otho Bodrugan, apparently a Cornishman, and one of the two daughters and co-heiresses of John St Aubyn, of Combe Raleigh in Devon, captain of Fangermen in Normandy. William had by her a single child, a daughter who became the wife of John Bonville, the illegitimate son of William Bonville, 1st Baron Bonville(c.1392/3-1461), of Shute, Devon, by his mistress, Elizabeth Kirkby. Risdon was well-versed in the history of the separate ancient family of Denys of Devon, which originated at Orleigh, near Bideford, and is thus unlikely to have been in error in identifying William as the "son of Sir Gilbert Dennis of Wales". .... etc.

- William Bonville, 1st Baron Bonville, KG (c.1392/3 – 18 February 1461) was an English nobleman, soldier, and administrator. .... etc.
- The Bonvilles were an old West Country family. The date of William Bonville's birth is uncertain. Cokayne states that he was born 30 August 1393, while Richardson states that various documents indicate he was four years of age in 1397, 16 years of age in 1408, and 21 years of age in 1414.[2] He was born at Shute, Devon, the son of Sir John Bonville (c.1371 – 21 October 1396), son and heir apparent of Sir William Bonville (c.1332 – February 1408) of Shute by his first wife, Margaret Daumarle (d. 25 May 1399),[3] the daughter of Sir William Daumarle.[4]
- Bonville's mother was Elizabeth FitzRoger (15 August 1370–15 April 1414), the only child of John FitzRoger (d.1370–2) of Chewton, Somerset, and his wife, Alice (d. 27 March 1426). According to Richardson, Alice's surname is unknown; however according to the peerage.com, she was Alice Cheddar.[5] .... etc.
- Bonville married firstly, by contract dated 12 December 1414, Margaret Grey, the eldest daughter of the Marcher Lord Reginald Grey, 3rd Baron Grey de Ruthyn, and Margaret de Ros, daughter of Thomas de Ros, 4th Baron de Ros, by whom he had one son and two daughters:[25]
- William Bonville, esquire, (died 30 December 1460), married Elizabeth Harington, by whom he had one son, William Bonville, 6th Baron Harington of Aldingham, who married Lady Katherine Neville. They were the parents of Cecily Bonville, Baroness Harington and Bonville.
- Elizabeth Bonville (died 14 February 1491), who married Sir William Tailboys (c.1416-19 – 26 May 1464), de jure Baron Kyme, by whom she had two sons, Thomas Tailboys and Sir Robert Tailboys (d. 30 January 1495).[26]
- Margaret Bonville (died before July 1487), who married Sir William Courtenay (c.1428 – September 1485) of Powderham, son of Sir Philip Courtenay and Elizabeth Hungerford, by whom she had four sons, Sir William, Edward, Philip and James, and one daughter, Joan Courtenay, who married Sir William Carew (born c.1483).[27]
- By his mistress, Elizabeth Kirkby (or "Kirby"[28]), Bonville had an illegitimate son, John Bonville of Ivybridge, who according to the Devon historian Sir William Pole (d.1635)[29] married the daughter of William Denys, second son of Sir Gilbert Denys (d.1422) of Glamorgan, Wales and Siston, Gloucestershire.
- Bonville married secondly, before 9 October 1427, Elizabeth Courtenay (d. 18 October 1471), the widow of John Harington, 4th Baron Harington (d. 11 February 1418), and daughter of Edward de Courtenay, 11th Earl of Devon (d. 5 December 1419), by Maud Camoys, the daughter of Sir John de Camoys[30] of Gressenhall, Norfolk by his second wife, Elizabeth le Latimer, the daughter of William le Latimer, 3rd Lord Latimer.[31] They had no issue
