Isabel Waldegrave

Edward Waldegrave, Esq., of the Friars and his wife Isabel Waldegrave had an only son John Waldegrave. They did not have a son Thomas Walgrave.

The testator married firstly, before 1487, Isabel Cheney (c.1472-c.1506). For a detailed

By Isabel Cheney, the testator was the father of one son, who predeceased him:

• John Waldegrave (c.1494 – 6 October 1543). In the inquisition post mortem, TNA C

142/21/43, taken after his mother’s death, he was stated to be thirteen years of age in
1507. In the inquisition post mortem taken after the death of Sir William Say (c.1452 – 4
December 1529), TNA C 142/51/35, John Waldegrave was stated to be thirty years of
age and more at the date of Sir William Say’s death. For the will of John Waldegrave, in
which he appoints his father, Edward Waldegrave (d.1545?), as supervisor, see TNA

• Isabel Cheyney was born circa 1462 at of Pindehoo, Devonshire, England. She married Edward Waldegrave, son of Sir Thomas Waldgrave and Elizabeth Fray, circa 1486. Elizabeth Cheyney died on 7 June 1505.
