Isadore Winer

Merle Gulbrandsen: I was told by my father that Isadore had a fall out with his father (Abraham) and left home when my dad was still very young (about 7yrs old). Isadore apparently got on a ship in about 1913 and left South Africa, sailing up the east coast of Africa. My father got a postcard from him from Port Said. Contact was lost with him entirely. It is believed that he changed his surname to Wheeler and went to America.

Jeremy Lichtman: A separate story (possibly inaccurate, but not inconsistent with the first) was related by Dana to my father in 1998. She said that Isadore had volunteered to fight in the Spanish Civil War, and had died there.

There is also a record of "Salamon Winogrodski", also born in Hackney, in Dec 1899 (which matches perfectly with Samuel Winogrodski, whose Hebrew name is indeed Shlomo).
