About Jacob Bernard Lowenberg
J. B. LOWENBERG DIES AT BEACH RETIRED IN 1918
Jacob Bernard Lowenberg, 78, retired business man, died suddenly yesterday at 1:30 p.m. at Virginia Beach. In retirement since a fire in 1918 destroyed his firm, the D. Lowenberg Boot and Shoe Co., on the southeast corner of Granby and Tazewell streets, he was fatally stricken a few minutes after moving into Virginia Lee Annex, his Summer home. Members of his family said he apparently had been in excellent health and that death came unexpectedly. He was a son of the late David Lowenberg, builder of the Monticello Hotel and prominent in the promotion of the Jamestown Exposition. His mother was the late Cecelia Hecht Lowenberg. Mr. Lowenberg was a native and life-long resident of Norfolk where he took a keen interest in the city's civic life. He was a former president of the Ghent Club and the Hague Club. His home in Norfolk was at Redgate Avenue. While not connected with any particular firm, he had engaged occasionaly in real estate since he retired in 1918. Surviving are three sons, Dr. Eugene L. Lowenberg and Secil Lowenberg, both of Norfolk, and David Lowenberg of Asheville, N.C.; and a daughter, Mrs. V.H. Nusbaum of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, seven grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. Rabbi L.D. Mendoza, D.D. will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
