About Jacques Bedard

baptised 18 Dec 1644 (?1646) at Calvinist Temple, LaRochelle, Charente-Maritime, Aunis, France

---------------------------------------------

Rec'd his Confirmation of Mgr. LAVAL 1 May 1662. -

-- (Judi Montgomery): Our ancestor Jacques and his wife had a family of 18 children, including 2 sets of twins. Like his father before him, he was a farmer and carpenter. He built two wings of the General Hospital of the Augustine Sisters in 1711. Lucky #13 was his son Charles.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jacques & Elizabeth Isabelle were a Huguenot family. There seem to be 2 different marriage dates and 3 different locations, the second date being 16 Oct 1666. There are no locations listed, but are probably Quebec City, Notre Dame de Quebec. It may be that one date is when the "banns" of marriage were announced at church before the marriage date, or, since there was pressure in New France back then for Protestants to convert to Catholicism and Jacques' family did so, who can say whether they just gave lip service to their new faith while secretly still observing their original religious convictions. If this were true, they may have had a 2nd Protestant marriage following the Catholic service. It's hard to say if they wholly endorse Catholicism.

Children: Étienne Bédard, Charles (1) Bédard, François Bédard, Elisabeth-Isabelle Bédard, Louis Bédard, Jacques Bédard, Marie-Madeleine Bédard, Pierre Bédard, Catherine Bédard, Françoise Bédard, Charles-Thomas Bédard, Charles-François Bédard, Marguerite Bédard, Marie-Anne Bédard, Marie-Jeanne Bédard, Marie-Josephe-Isabelle Bédard, Charles (2) Bédard --from Geni.com SmartMatch MyHeritage.com
