Source Information, Title: Australian Army.
A Private in the Australian Army in WWII. Location: Singapore, WWII.
James Streeter was in the Australian Imperial Force as a Private from 27 October 1941 to 31 January 1946. He fought the Japanese and was a prisoner-of-war in Singapore. For his bravery he received the 1939/45 Star, the Pacific Star, the War Medal 1939/45 the Australia Service Medal and the Returned from Active Service Badge. I have a copy of his Certificate of Service from the Australian Army dated 3 April 1989 which lists these medals.
James Streeter was a golf club member of Narooma Golf Course. About 1950.
Location: South Coast of New South Wales, Australia.
He was the South Coast Golf Champion from Wollongong to the Victorian border when he was a young man. Once he played a professional golfer Norm Von Nida and won. James was only an amateur golfer. James received a silver engraved rose bowl and Norm won the money. James caddy was Digby Richards. Digby was a singer who played on bandstand. He sang I'm going to throw my raincoat in the river; which was a hit song. Digby died of cancer later in life. James caddied for a lot of golfers (some American golfers) as a teenager to earn some money.
