About Joseph James Scanlan
JJS was a son of Philip Francis Scanlan who immigrated from Ireland to Dover, NH. There, he and others persuaded the Catholic Church to provide a Parish in Dover. Philip Francis Scanlan was instrumental in this effort and is mentioned in a number of articles about the Catholic Church in Dover. He and his family then moved to Lowell, MA and then to Michigan. He later was active in the Catholic Church in PA and NJ. He died, I think, in Philadelphia. He, his wife, Ann, and children are buried together in an unmarked plot in Cathedral Cemetery (Catholic), Philadelphia.
