About James Oneal
GEDCOM Note
Abraham Lincoln Tidd was reared on the home farm, and
after attending country schools entered Valparaiso
University, from which he was graduated in 1888. In
1894 he received the degree Bachelor of Laws from the
University of Missouri. After graduation and in the
same year he took up temporarily the [p.449]
profession of school teaching, which he followed in
Texas and Indiana from 1894 for five years. In the
meantime he was admitted to the bar in Texas and
Missouri, and September 5, 1899, was admitted to the
Nebraska bar and took up his practice at Plattsmouth,
where he has since been located. Mr. Tidd has risen to
a high place in his profession, and his
accomplishments have been of a substantial rather than
a showy character, his clients and friends being found
all over Nebraska and Iowa. Some years ago he served
as city attorney of Plattsmouth for five years, and
otherwise has been active in the affairs of the city,
county and state. A member of the library board for
several years, he was president thereof and procured
from the Carnegie fund a donation for a public library
in Plattsmouth. As a fraternalist he is identified
with the Masons and the Knights of Pythias, and in the
latter has been the incumbent of a number of offices.
With his family he belongs to the First Methodist
Church. On November 26, 1906, Mr. Tidd was united in
marriage with Miss Dora Herold, of Plattsmouth, who
was born January 3, 1869, a daughter of William and
Elizabeth (O'Neil) Herold, the former being one of the
first merchants of Plattsmouth. James O'Neill,
fathin-law of Mr. Herold, built the first log house at
what is now Plattsmouth and later assisted in
organizing and laying out the town. Mrs. Tidd's mother
was born in Ohio and came West with her parents in
1849, settling across the river from Plattsmouth,
whence in 1854 they moved across to the new town.
