2. JAMES PRIEST2 SR. (ABRAHAM1 PRIEST) was born April 10, 1610 in Chesham, Bucks County, England, and died April 11, 1676 in Boston Suffolk Co. Mass.. He married ELIZABETH ? Abt. 1637 in Dorchester Mass.. She was born Bet. 1604 - 1626 in Probably Chesham, Bucks County, England, and died May 29, 1676 in Boston ,Suffolk Co. Mass.

James Priest Sr. is first found mentioned in Dorchester Records in 1637. He was the son of Abraham and Elizabeth ( Nuens ) Priest it is probable that James Sr. and Elizabeth were married not far from the date(1637)of his first land transaction, recorded in Dorchester Records. Dorchester Records, Vol. 29: The allotted land being 'Mannings Moore', date 2nd January, 1637. " Got 8 akers more" 3rd April, 1638.

In 1651 Walter Hams made an attempt to obtain a portion of the above mentioned land. According to Suffolk Deeds, printed Volume 111, p, 356 ,Margery Staple of Weimouth in the County of Suffolk, widow for and in Consideration of three pounds sixe shillings unto James Priest of Weimouth aforesaid two parcells of upland by estimation concerning fifteen acres and a half more or less both which parcells of land are Scittuate and lying in the towne of Weimouth aforesaid. That is to say thirteen acres and half butting on Hingham line on the East and the Pen River on the West.........and ye other two acres of the aforesaid land butting on the Highway on the East and the lot of John Bricknell on the West...... this 10th day of January in Yeare one thousand sixe hundred fifty eight.

A memorandum, ( date not now at hand) says that James was allowed 24 shillings for having meeting house swept and galleries kept clean for one year, on 19 January, 1674, James gave his son Joseph, one half of a house in Boston .

He died in 1676 and his will, (Suffolk Probate #772),dated 4 March 1675 states " I give my lot of 24 akers lying in Waymouth woods butting on Hingham line to my son, Shadrack Thayer ( was actually a son-in- law ) as a debt me and to my beloved wife all my housing land and cattle that I have in Waymouth and what I have in a house at Boston that I now live in. ....

James Priest was to have allotments of land "at Mannings Moone" in Dorchester, 2 January 1637. (Dorchester Town Records, 29). On 3 April 1638, "it is ordered that the allotment which was formerly graunted on Mannings Moone shall be 8 akes to James Priest" (Ibid. 32). On 14 March 1652/53, "It is voted that whereas Walter Harris desireth a little p'cell of land, p'cell of the garden belonging to Priestes howse, and which he form'ly have enjoyed, to by the same, it is by vote left unto the selectmen." (Ibid. 315). He was made freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, 10 May, 1643. He removed to Weymouth, near 1639, and spent the rest of his life there. He had lands granted to him at Weymouth "in King Oke hill" and "in the east ffield," (Weymouth Land Grants, 272). He also had five acres in the First Division and fifteen acres in the Second Division granted, 14 DEC 1663.

James Priest may have been the James Priest, son of Abraham and Elizabeth (Nuens) Priest, who was baptized at Chesham, county of Bucks, 5 November 1610. (Register, 65:66).

James Priest, "being sicke and weake of body," made his will at Boston, 4 March 1675-76, and it was probated 28 April 1676. To his son "Sedrach Thare" [Shadrach Thayer] his lot of 27 acres in Weymouth woods. To his wife his "housing, land and cattle at Weymouth and what right I have in a house at Boston that I now live in." Wife to be executrix. "His son-in-law Sedreck Thare and Deacon Thomas Dyar of Waymouth" overseers. Witnesses: "Edward Sale and John Dyar." (Suffolk Probate 6:117). Inventory of the estate of James Priest of Weymouth, late deceased apprised, 11 April 1676, by Samuel White and Ebenezer White. Items: house and land at Weymouth L44, house and land at Boston L60; debt from the son-in-law Henry "Tuebifild" L6 10s. Elizabeth Priest, late wife of James Priest, made oath to the inventory 15 May 1676. (Ibid, 5:32).
