From a letter to Rev. Milford Riggs from his mother Elizabeth Overfield Longmoor Riggs Jan.21, 1890.
This copy was made by Mary Dudley Riggs on June 9, 1943.

Your grandfather James Riggs came to Kentucky in 1790 at the age of 16. He was born near Brownsville, Pa. Feb.25, 1774, and was one of a family of five children, 4 sons & one daughter. He married Caturah Hathaway on Dec.22, 1796, he being 22 and she being 16 yrs. of age. They were the parents of twelve children, ten sons, and two daughters.

Your grandmother was born and raised in Kentucky, her family was one of the first at Mt. Sterling, Montgomery County.

Your grandfather died July 20, 1858, aged 84 yrs.4 mos.25 days.
Your grandmother died Sept. 11, 1855, aged 75 yrs.5 mos. 6 days.
They are buried side by side in an individual cemetery about 4 miles from Ludlow, Ky, on what was
once the McCay farm.

Your other grandfather William Longmoor was born in May 1801 and was raised in Bourbon Co. Ky. 10 miles from Paris.
He was one of two children. He & his brother George were left fatherless when he was 9 and George was 7.
They & their mother were left with an independent living. Their father, my grandfather, was born in Scotland
and taken to Dublin, Ireland when he was 2 and where he lived to be a man. He then came to Ky. & married
my grandmother Sarah Ennis, a Pa. girl 16 yrs. old.

When he was 22 yrs old, my father married my mother Sarah Oldfield in Bourbon Co. Ky. near Paris, where they lived a few yrs. before moving to Kenton Co. 7 miles from Covington. They were the earliest settlers.
They had 12 children, 7 of whom grew to be men & women, 2 sons, and 5 daughters.
Your grandfather Longmoor died Dec.7, 1875, being in his 75th yr.

My mother, your grandmother was b. Feb.25, 1804. Her mother Mary Overfield whose maiden name
was Mary Adamson was left a widow with 4 children. She married a 2nd time. Her 2nd husband not being a good stepfather, my mother went to live with her uncle John Desha. He raised her as his own child.

My mother's father & mother were both aristocratic and the Deshas were among the first families of Bourbon Co.
My mother died at the age of 40.
These grandparents are buried in the Highland cemetery near Covington.
