Native Of Parowan Dies At Minersville

Word was received here Sunday evening that Mrs. Jane Ann (Jinnie) Orton Eyre, 75, former Parowan woman had passed away at the family residence in Minersville from failing health incident to age. She was born and reared in this community and was the wife of John E. Eyre, also a native of Parowan.

The deceased was born in Parowan December 3, 1860, a daughter of Alexander and Jane Homes Orton. She was married to John E. Eyre on March 5th, 1879 in the St. George temple. Two or three years later, after the birth of their first child, they were called with other local people to help colonize in San Juan county and spent a couple of years there.

Returning to Parowan they made their home here until about thirty years ago when they moved to Minersville where they have resided since. Seven children were born to them, three of whom preceded her in death. The surviving members of the family are the husband and the following children: Edward Eyre, Cowley, Wyoming; Laura Corbridge, Jennie Carter and Burdette Eyre, all of Minersville. Besides these there are several grand and great-grandchildren.

The deceased is also survived by three sisters of a family of twelve: Mrs. Lizzie Benson of Parowan, Mrs. Laura Thornton of Beaver and Mrs. Florence Mitchell of Cedar City.

The sympathy of this community is extended to the bereaved ones in their loss of a devoted wife, mother and sister.

Funeral services were held in Minersville on Tuesday afternoon after which the body was brought here in harmony with the wishes of her and her husband for burial. Services were held in the West Ward chapel on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Bishop H.L. Adams presiding.

Speakers were David Matheson, Othnel Carter (a grand son) and Walter C. Mitchell. The choir directed by Rex C. Ward, sang "Author of Faith" as the opening song, with Mrs. Della Marsden at the piano, and the closing number by the choir was "Rest, Rest, For the Weary Soul". A quartet consisting of Lola Dalton, Berta Burton, Rex C. Ward and Ray D. Garner sant "Look to the Comforter", and Silas Topham played a violin solo.

Six grandsons, all from Minersville, were pall beareres and several grand-daughters from the same community were in charge of beautiful flowers.
