DEVOTED MOTHER TAKEN BY DEATH

Laurette Orton Mitchell, wife of Wm. C. Mitchell and devoted mother of a large family of grown children, died instantly from heart trouble at the family residence on Thursday morning of last week about five o'clock. A weak heart and some other afflictions has caused poor health for several years, though almost all the time she had been able to discharge the household duties of the family as well as liking an active --unreadable-- in some of the organizations of the LDS church of which she was a faithful member.

For several days prior to her death, however, she had been feeling very much better so that the end which came without a moments warning was an awful shock to her family and the community. She had waked and talked naturally enough to her husband as they lay there during the early morning hours before time to --unreadable-- and he had urged her to get some more sleep. If she was not feeling as well as usual he had no intimation of it. The next instant, however, she called to him, and he discovered she was slipping off the pillow. Placing her back he turned on the light to see her attempting to speak but her thought was never uttered. Dr. Burton was called immediately and pronounced the cause as heart trouble.

Mrs. Mitchell was born on Nov. 6, 1871, the daughter of Alexander H. and Jane Orton, both of whom were among the early settler os this city. She was married on April 10, 1889 to Wm. C. Mitchell Jr. and became the mother of twelve children, ten of whom together with her husband survive her, the oldest daughter, Mrs J.W. Bergstrom and a son Douglas having preceeded her to the other side by six and one years respectively. Those of her children who survive her are Warner, Harold, Albert, Karl, Belle, Ada, Josephine, and Laura all residing at Parowan, Mrs. Gorden Roche of El Paso Texas and Mrs. Grant Tolton of Beaver, Utah. All of them were at home for the funeral though part of those who reside here have been teaching and attending school else where.

Impressive funeral services were held in the tabernacle on Sunday afternoon at which Mrs. Luella K. Adams, Mrs. Mary M. Marsden, Mr. Walter C. Mitchell, Mr. Jos. --unreadable--Mcgregor and Bishop H.L. Adams were the speakers. Mr. L.J. Adams who conducted the singing sang very beautifully "O Grave Where Is Thy Victory" assisted by the choir. The opening prayer was offered by David Matheson and the closing orte by Jethro Palmer of Cedar City. There was an unusually large attendance of people from this and surrounding communities at the funeral and the floral offerings were many and beautiful. The grave was dedicated by Bishop Thomas W. Jones of Paragonah.
