Jean Baptiste Petit dit Gobin

Joined the Hudson Bay Company as a middleman, Yamaska Parish, Lower Canada, in 1831.  Retired and settled in Willamette in 1842.

Jean Baptiste Petit dit Gobin  (1811-1898) 

• son of Antoine Gobin and Angelique Forcier dit Gaucher of St. Michel de Yamaska, Quebec.  

By the time he had settled in the Willamette, he and an unnamed Indian woman had two sons:

1. Toussaint (1835-?) and 
2. Jean Baptiste (II) (1837-58). 

On August 23, 1841 he married Marguerite Venier (1819-1858); their children were: 

1. François Xavier (1842-?), 
2. Angelique (1845-73), 
3. Julie (1849-76), 
4. Isabelle (1851-?), 
5. Antoine (1854-54), and 
6. Joseph (1856-?). 

His wife Marguerite died at St. Louis on May 7, 1858 and he married Elizabeth (Lisette) Gagnon Depot on 1 June  1868 at St. Louis.

• from Oregon Prior to 1839 1825 Jean Baptiste GOBIN (1805-aft 1886):  m1.  ; m2. 1841 Marguerite Vagnier; m3. Lisette Gagnon Depot.  Gobin stated that he had come overland in a large brigade in 1825, and that he had worked fifteen years as builder and trapper for the Hudson's Bay Company.  He retired to a French Prairie claim in 1840. Gobin was the father of Toussaint (1835) and Jean Baptiste (II) (1837) by his first wife; Francois Xavier (1842), Angelique (1845), Julie (1849), Isabelle (1851), Antoine (1854-1854) and Joseph (1856) by his second wife and  Antoine Arsene (1864-1866), Nazaire Amadee (1866-1870), Josephine (1868), and Melicie Jeanne (1869) by his third wife.

He was the son of Antoine Petit and Angelique Forcier dit Gaucher. Antoine was the son of Pierre Petit and Marie Anne Morel Ladurantaye.   Therese Durbreuille was married to Jean Baptiste Petit dit Gobin who was the son of Antoine Petit dit Gobin and an Indian woman by the name of Angelle. This Antoine was descended from Michel Petit and Maria Josette Parenteau.
