About Jesse Bryan

Jesse was the eldest son of Col Thomas Bryan. Jesse and his brothers, Johnathan, Morgan, William and Thomas, removed to Kentucky and settled Harrods Creek, about twelve miles from Louisville, in 1790. Jesse Bryan removed to what is now Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri, in 1793, and settled the district known as "new Tennessee." Daniel Boone visited his house after his removal from Kentucky in 1795. Johnathan Bryan lived in Clark County, Kentucky, near Lexington. Morgan Bryan lived in Jefferson County. William Bryan lived in Fayette County. Thomas Bryan lived in Frankfort, Kentucky. Martha Bryan, their sister married Stephen Gano, a son of Rev. John Gano, who was connected with a college in Rhode Island.

Text from his obituary:
"On the 18th ultimo, in Ste. Genevieve Co. Mo.,
in the 86th year of his age, JESSE BRYAN, Esq.
The deceased was born in Rowan County, NC, in
November, 1757, but in 1808 removed to Ky.
where he remained until the year 1822 when he came with his family to Mo., as the home of his future days. In the many relations of life which he sustained, few have acquitted themselves with more reputation as a husband.
His bereaved wife still lives to mourn the loss of his affection and faithfulness.
As a parent his children revere and love his memory. As a citizen, neighbor and friend, his record is to be found in the cherished respect and esteem of those associated with him in his journey through the world. And as
a Christian, his consistent deportment for more that 30 years is the best evidence of his sincerity and devotedness. His last years
were years of suffering, especially as he approached the time of his departure. He, however, found strength equal to his day. His
confidence, moreover, in his Saviour, remained unshaken to the last. When called to
walk through the dark valley and shadow of
death, he feared no evil. The rod and staff of the Shepherd of Isreal was his protection
and comfort. His end was peace."
