About Jesse F. Locke
Jesse F. Locke was born in Biddeford, Maine and married Mehitable Green Hill. He became a physician and in 1838 he moved to Tonawanda, New York, becoming the area's first resident physician. He was very active civically, including serving as a member of the board of trustees for the incorporation of Tonwanda in 1854, a board member for the erection of the First Methodist Church in Tonawanda, and a Master-level mason. He purportedly sold 12 acres of land to John and "Black" Hannah Johnson, she being one of the first free black community members. Jesse died in 1861, almost 10 years after his wife.
