About Joanna Rockwood

Origins

Her only sources are her marriage to John Rockwood 1662 in Braintree, Massachusetts, the American Genealogical and Biographical Index for her birth in Mass in 1640, and in a birth record for her son, John, 1663, also in Braintree, Massachusetts. Her secondary source is the Bicknell Geneology in which names her as Johanna Ford along with a list of her children married to John Rockwood. Its possible the couple came over from Weymouth, England in 1663 to Mendon because that is when her husband acquired land and set up house as one of its founders.

She is also an ancestor of William Howard Taft and is mentioned in a book:Roberts, Gary Boyd; Ancestors of American Presidents. Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2009.

Surname

We think her surname is Ford because no other marriages or children have surfaced for her besides her own since 1662 when she married John Rockwood we assume at age 20, if she was around the same age as him since he was born in 1641 and was age 21 when they married.

Duplicate memorials for William and Anna currently appear here and here, and further research is needed to establish the possible relationship.
