About Job Cozad

Job Cozad

  • BIRTH 1727 Bound Brook, Somerset County, New Jersey, USA
  • DEATH 8 Mar 1815 (aged 87–88) Branchville, Sussex County, New Jersey, USA
  • BURIAL Union Church Cemetery, Branchville, Sussex County, New Jersey, USA
  • MEMORIAL ID 126936922

Job and wife, Hannah, settled, lived and died in Frankford Township, Sussex County, NJ near Branchville. Job appears to have been an extensive dealer in real estate, as the public records of Sussex County show many deeds of conveyances of land, etc. on which his name appears. He took an active part in religious work as will be seen by the following clause, which appears in his Will.

'First, I give and bequeath the meeting house which I built and named Bethel to the inhabitants of the neighborhood adjacent.' His Will was dated August 8, 1812, and is on file at Newton, NJ. He had a family of nine children, six of who were living at the time of the Will was written. A headstone was erected at his grave, but has since been broken and it is said was used in constructing the foundation of a nearby barn. Some of his descendants through their youngest, Hannah, still lived in Sussex County.

As no mention of Benone, Abbigail and Jacob were made in Job's Will, they had probably died in infancy or were without families previous to the time the Will was written in 1812.
