Arr. 1725 as so., so. 1725-30, baker 1731-33, so. 1734, b. 1734, baker at Cape Town. + 28.11.1762. 4 children by Rachel (Anna Catharina) of the C., manumitted with their mother in 1752. Stamvader JOHANN (JAN) ANDREAS BAM van Schwerin, Duitsland,  arriveer aan die Kaap de Goede Hoop  op 3 Februarie 1725 aan boord die ”Geertruid” as soldaat in diens van die Verenigde Oos-Indiese Kompanjie (destyds Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie, algemeen afgekort as VOC).

Voor sy aankoms in die Kaap was hy vir ongeveer  tien jaar in diens van die VOC as Onder- Korporaal. Gedurende die 18de eeu was 20 persent van die soldate in diens van die Kompanjie uit Duitsland en die Oostzeegebied. In 1733/34 ontvang hy sy vrybrief en werk as bakker in Kaapstad.  ‘
