The father of William Alexander Lowry Sr was John Lowry, a Revolutionary

War soldier who fought in the 7th Maryland Regiment, and lost a leg in

the Battle of Camden in SC. He was taken prisoner aboard ship and then

later released on the Eastern Shore. He was in Somerset Co, MD from

1783-1790.

He received a Soldier's pension from the Orphans Court from 1783 until

the US government was formed in 1789. I have found records of him at the

historic Washington Hotel in Princess Anne. We visited there a few years

ago. John was born in Scotland, and his wife was born in Maryland, but

we have no name for her. I have a bill of sale of household goods, and a

few farm items in late 1790, when we assume that he moved west. He did

have a grant of land west of Fort Cumberland, but I have not been able to

find that he ever settled on this land.

His sons William Alexander and Levi Jasper appear to have left Guilford

Co, NC in 1815 after William was released from service in the War of

1812, and went to TN.
