About John Eppes, the Younger
John Epes the Younger was the son of John Epes the Elder and wife Thomazine Fisher. He was born c.1586 in Kent, England and died after November 1627. He is mentioned in his father's will, receiving cash after a house is sold. He is mentioned in the will of Caleb Bankes, dated March 12, 1597, in which he is bequeathed "a little roan nag."
No record of a wife or of children has been found for John Epes the Younger, but many theories abound. He did not marry Thomazine Fisher. She was his mother, as documented in his father's will.
We know that his date of death is after November 1627 because of the mention in his father's will. It is assumed that he still lived in or near Ashford, Kent, England.
Some web trees give him the middle name Francis. This is an error. Francis was his brother. Both are named in their father's will.
Finally, do no confuse him with John Eppes, Jr., grandson of his brother Francis Epes. John Jr. grew up in Virginia Colony and was a major landowner in Charles City.
Be sure to read all the notes on his father's overview. For years there has been confusion about this father and son and their wives. They have often been shown as the same person. Read my notes, do your own research, and come to your own conclusions. If you find information that greatly varies from my work dated June-July 2013, please bring it to my attention.
